Our speaker for the first part of the evening will be Cathy ten Broeke, Minnesota's Director to Prevent and End Homelessness. In her role, she works with multiple state agencies, community partners, and private stakeholders to create a statewide partnership to end homelessness. Cathy has over 24 years of experience working on homelessness in both the nonprofit and government sectors, including as advocate and Shelter Director at St. Stephen's Human Services, Principal Policy Aide to Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman, Director of the Minneapolis/Hennepin County Office to End Homelessness and, immediately prior to her current role, Cathy worked in the Obama Administration as a Special Advisor to the Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness in Washington, DC. Cathy holds a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota.

At our meeting in February, we identified 19 gaps in service (see attachment) and several attendees expressed interest in working in smaller groups on the following areas:

1) Warming Center
2) Online Portal
3) Coordinated Entry Point
4) Mental Health Support
5) Communication/Storytelling
6) Food Availability

During the second part of our meeting, we will identify leads in each of these areas so that further work and study can be done.

Additionally, I am very pleased to report that Olmsted County leadership and staff continue to delve into the issue and have developed a plan to reach out to our skyway friends and others who are unsheltered to find out where they are (or if they are) in the system as well as what services they identify as needs. We have identified a possible additional warming site, perhaps for women, and I’m hopeful we can explore that more intensely in the coming weeks to see if there is a provider will to help facilitate a program. We will hear more from Olmsted County leadership at this meeting.
